Hsueh Hui-Yin
薛慧瑩

Hsueh Hui-Yin (薛慧瑩) is an illustrator, mother, and housewife. In 2021, she won the Taipei Public Library’s Best Children’s Book of the Year Award for Outstanding Illustrator, and her work was featured in the Bologna Children’s Book Fair Illustrators Exhibition. She has published several picture books including Sleepwalking, Mr. Alzheimer, and Dear Grandma, as well as comic books such as Big and Small: Everyday Battles Between Mothers and Children. Her work is often featured on the covers of children’s books, and her illustrations have appeared in various newspapers and magazines.

Rights Sold: Korean, Indonesian Korean rights sold at auction!   A drunk driving accident took away the old man who was caring for stray cats on the street, leaving the deeply saddened old lady living alone. The old lady is gradually losing her memory, and the cats that were cared for by the old man becomes the guardians for the old woman.   A story of losing love and gaining love, combining Xue Huiying's delicate and rustic illustration style. With various poses and ubiquitous cats in the book, it showcases the gentle power of guardianship in life, bringing unprecedented emotions to people. The Cats' House is a picture book about drunk driving, dementia, stray cats, and elderly people living alone, yet it is full of warm companionship and love in both language and imagery.
