万玛才旦
Pema Tseden (1969-2023) was a Tibetan director, screenwriter and author. His published works, in both Tibetan and Chinese, include Enticement, The Color of Death, and Tharlo. His works have received numerous literature awards and have been translated into English, French, German, Japanese, Czech. His collection of work Enticement published in 2018 with SUNY Press.
Most of Pema Tseden’s films were shot in Tibetan language by Tibetan teams. His films include The Silent Holy Stones, The Search, Old Dog, Tharlo, Jinpa, Balloon and Snow Leopard. From his realistic, meticulous portrayal of his native land, people have a new understanding of Tibetan culture and its living conditions. His films have been nominated at the Venice International Film Festival, Locarno International Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and other major international film festivals, where they have received Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay Awards and over forty other domestic and international prizes.
